Ann Hourigan
Michael’s wife, Ann plays an integral part in the running of the yard and it’s administration.
Michael Jnr
has a full trainers lisence and has trained 8 winners.
Michael Hourigan jnr was 17 yrs old when he went to England and won the Champion Amateur title in 1991/1992 season. He is one of the youngest people to win this title.
Michael runs a transport company, driving race horses all over the UK and Ireland to race meetings. Michael now has his own training facilities away from the family yard and trains for both the track and point to points.
Kay
Kay acts as assistant trainer to her father and rides out the horses daily.
Paul Hourigan
works outside the family business in England.
Paul learnt to ride at an early age. He was champion conditional in the 97/98 season and has amassed over 100 winners from Lisaleen. Weight caught up with Paul and the lower weights now are out his reach (he is 6ft tall) so he rides for Michael professionally on the horses with the higher weights.
Paul has all the attributes of skill as a professional jockey. Paul has had international success as a jockey at St. Moritz in Switzerland. He also had a spell in the UK with Heather Dalton in 2003 before weight caught up with him and he was forced to end his racing career. He now works in England.
Laura Hourigan
works full time at home.
Laura has an amateur license. She rode 7 winners in her first season 2001-2002. Laura works at home full time.
Mark Hourigan
Mark is at school and he is great for giving tips on Dads horses!! Mark has recently started riding and has taken to it very well. It will be a few more years yet before he works the thoroughbreds up the gallops. He has had his first day hunting this season with Mary Mc Carthy from Clarina keeping a watchful eye on him, ‘I fell off,’ said Mark. Well, yes, we all do if we ride!
